Unlocking Youth Potential
We believe that every young Kiwi should be able to find their way onto the path of success, so we've announced a number of initiatives to help young people make the best of themselves - we believe that our future relies on unlocking their potential.
Our $12.1 million Break-Away Package is designed to help young people do just that by increasing opportunities for young people on school holidays.
Holiday Activity Programmes will provide for kids from deprived communities a break during the school holidays. They'll be able to undertake exciting and meaningful activitities they'd otherwise not have been able to enjoy.
Residential Respite Camps will give foster caregivers and extended whanau a break from their responsibilities while their wards are treated to a holiday camp.
Our Prime Minister's Youth Programme will give selected young people a chance to engage in fun and challenging activities with high-profile role models as a reward for turning their lives around.
The National-led Government is funding a range of initiatives in order to provide opportunities for young people in trouble with the police, or before the youth justice system, to turn their lives around. These include court supervised camp programmes for youth offenders at the lower end of the scale, and military-style programmes for more serious offenders.
